Update (2023-06-09): described here,
Website:
"North99 is an independent political movement powered by over 100,000 supporters, united by a shared commitment to progressive principles. Our work is driven by values, not party politics, and we do not receive support from or align ourselves with any political party. We support and oppose candidates based on their commitment or opposition to progressive principles."
"North99 advances progressive policies and ideas through media, advocacy, and campaigns. Our aim is to shift opinion and create the political conditions for a Canada that works for the many, not just the richest few."
Take back power from the wealthy elite and restoring it to the hard-working many. True democracy is incompatible with a society where the richest 1% own more than 25% of the wealth. Public goods -- land, resources, roads, bridges, education -- are the foundation of all wealth created in this country, and the public should share in that wealth. We support policies to distribute wealth and power from an elite few to everyone, including taxes on wealth and inheritance along with greater public ownership of key segments of the economy.
Guarantee economic security for every citizen. In one of the world's wealthiest countries, nobody should have to wonder whether they will be able to feed or shelter themselves and their family. But automation and globalization have made work precarious, the cost-of-living is increasing, and wages are stagnant. We believe in policies that will make people's lives economically secure, including a universal basic income, free college and university, and affordable housing for all.
Secure better jobs and pay through stronger worker protections and unions. Hard work ought to be honoured, and the people who build our economy ought to be respected. That must include guaranteeing workers a decent wage, safe working conditions, and fair benefits. We support policies to protect workers, and to empower them to secure a better life through stronger unions.
Build a society free from all discrimination and hate. There is no place for racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, or discrimination of any form in our society. We oppose all movements and groups that promote these ideas, and support policies that curb discrimination.
End the climate crisis. The climate crisis is an existential threat and must be overcome. We support the Green New Deal: a World War Two-style mobilization to move Canada to a 100% clean energy economy with net-zero carbon emissions, creating millions of good jobs in the process.
"North99 runs campaigns on a wide variety of issues and policies. Here are a few we are working on right now."
"We believe that by bringing together progressive Canadians, we can build powerful institutions that can make change happen through the democratic process."
Change Opinion. We are creating a progressive Canadian media ecosystem that can shift public opinion in favour of progressive ideas and policies.
Win Elections. We target and work to defeat right-wing candidates in elections at all levels across the country, while advancing progressive policies and candidates who support them.
Pressure Leaders. We mobilize citizens to pressure elected officials of all partisan stripes to back progressive polices.
North99 is managed by Geoff Sharpe and Taylor Scollon and was created as a project to counter the growing influence of right-wing online voices, while building a progressive organization capable of shifting opinion, electing progressives, and influencing policy. Geoff is originally from Campbell River, British Columbia and Taylor is originally from Ottawa, Ontario.
North99 is 100% funded by individual Canadian donors. We have never accepted contributions from businesses, political parties, or governments. In 2018 we received 3,774 individual donations with an average donation size of $14.50. The largest contribution we received was $515.

"Overall, we rate North99 Left Biased for story selection that always favors the left, and Mixed for factual reporting due to a few failed fact checks and misleading context of article headlines."
According to their About page "North99 is a progressive media network for the many, not the few. Our contributors and supporters include progressive people across Canada united by a concern about rising inequality and the increasing influence of the far-right." A whois search reveals the domain was purchased in August of 2017.
North99 is a non-profit funded through individual donations. The website claims they do not accept donations from corporations, but rather only from individual donors. The website does not list who owns North99, however, the non-profit registration lists Geoff Sharpe as the Director.
North99 is a combination between a media source and an activist portal. The news reported always favors the left and uses loaded language such as this: Voter Fraud, Illegal Fundraising, Racism -- A Timeline of Every Doug Ford Ontario Election Controversy. Essentially, the sole purpose of the website is to discredit right-wing politicians and policy in Canada. News articles are reasonably sourced to mainstream media outlets.
A factual search reveals that North99 has failed a few fact checks. However, they corrected some errors when discovered. Further, on 7/23/2019, the CBC published an article demonstrating North99 using misleading online petitions, and again on 12/5/2019, they published another false claim resulting in a downgrade to Mixed factual.
Overall, we rate North99 Left Biased for story selection that always favors the left and Mixed for reporting due to a few failed fact checks and misleading context of article headlines. (D. Van Zandt 6/10/2018) Updated (12/06/2019)
